Should America Refocus ? - by Ken Hughes - ken-hughes@comcast.net
Maybe it’s time for America to refocus and look inward at its own perception of democracy. How much of the original America constitution can be found in this countries government these days? Sixty-five years have passed and America still has troops in Germany and Japan, has even one administration bothered to explain why? Americas influence around the world is like a snowball rolling down hill it picks up mass as it rolls along. Now the question is, is it influence or is it meddling? When the Colonials broke ties with the British most of Europe stood on the sidelines and cheered for the Americans, not one of these countries offered troops to assist in the revolution. France and Portugal sold guns, powder and gave Maritime support.. Everything else had a wait and see attitude to it. If the citizens of other countries want to break the bonds of dictatorships let them make the first and most aggressive efforts the way the early American Colonials did.
I’m not opposed to war or killing they are some of natures many laxatives when used properly. Hell was created to show man things could be worse, heaven to show things can get better. Life on earth is just life on earth with its good, bad and mediocrity. For the millions of years man has occupied earth [no one knows how long] the animals, man included have always sought to expand their hunting territory, other have been equally aggressive protecting theirs, it’s the nature of the beast. One thing no one will ever see is a Lyon fighting a Tiger to protect a Wildebeest. Only humans are willing to fight and die to protect their neighbors and their property, or should I say only Americans. Most of the rest of the world sits on the sidelines and offers advice.
Why are Americans so hell bent on creating democracies the rest of the world hasn’t been able to duplicate in over two hundred years? A society for it’s people free to criticize there government is a true democracy. When the least bit of restriction is placed on that criticism then it ceases to be a democracy it becomes an autocracy. Authorities know best is not an option in a democracy, it becomes a hindrance to mans freedom. America was founded on “We the People” being in charge. When the war of independence ended “Of the people, for the people and by the people” was the message sent around the world by the American Colonials . This is not the message being sent around the world today by Americans elected officials. Today there’s a lot of pseudo colonialism accompanying Americas benevolence. The American people won’t accept outright occupation of foreign countries however buying and bribing their leaders is acceptable or perhaps just overlooked.
The Constitution of the United States ranks as one of the greatest documents ever written. Yet it is being ignored by the very people who swear to uphold it. The people it benefits most know very little of what it contains or what it represents. The travesty has been the constitution over the years has been too good to the American people and they’ve forgotten how they got where they are today. Gradually America is waking up to what has been allowed to go on around them. No more, the people are taking charge once again thanks to the Tea Party Movement.
